Abeille Voyante Tea Co., Pittsburgh, PA
11:00 AM - 12:30 PM EST
Autumn is the perfect time of year to master your vegetable fermentation process as we wind down from the harvest season and you start wishing for fresh picklers! Join Trevor Ring, fermentation educator and founder of Community Cultures, at Abeille Voyante Tea Garden (outside behind the library) in Millvale for tea and pickles. Dive into the world of fermented veggies, with a focus on salt brines and pickles (no vinegar!), in this hands-on workshop.
Participants will learn about the history of fermentation, its potential health benefits in food, and understand how to safely and confidently ferment any vegetable at home. Trevor will guide you through how to make a jar of pickles, and students will make their own jar of pickles to ferment at home. You will also learn how to pickle just about any vegetable and how to bring culinary creativity and curiosity to your fermentation practice.
Walk away with:
- 1 jar of brined veggies to ferment at home
- 1 bag of inspiration, confidence, curiosity, and understanding that no one is getting botulism from these foods!
- guides, recipes and handouts emailed to your inbox
- permission to reach out to the instructor whenever you have questions, need to troubleshoot your ferments, or need a confidence boost in your process
ALL Ages are welcome. All ingredients will be vegan, gluten-free and nut-free. No special equipment is required for this workshop. Come to class prepared to chop veggies!
Please notify Trevor – trevor@communitycultures.com – if you have any severe allergies to produce or spices.
Note: if the weather is not ideal, we will move inside to the tea shop down the street, 303 Grant Ave.
